While some tourists choose the white sand beaches and luxury coastal resorts for their holidays away from home, Rik has chosen the country roads and his sweat-drenched Toyota Corolla, Paul Hogan. Well, he chooses the beaches and sites as well, but not before putting in his morning run.
Rik lives and breathes distance running, archaeology, and traveling–his main passions in life. When he is not actively engaged in the aforementioned, he can be found reading, writing, or taking in the local culture.
A graduate from The College of Wooster in his home state of Ohio, Rik has worked as a professional archaeologist and fine arts conservation assistant across the country and abroad.
Rik has been running competitively for more than 13 years and has experience coaching distance athletes at the collegiate (Oberlin College) and post-collegiate level. His current running goals include racing around the world and qualifying for the 2016 Olympic Marathon Trials.
Embarking on a world-wide trip in November ’13, Rik has spent time in Fiji, New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, the Republic of Turkey, Greece, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Switzerland, France, Germany, Luxembourg, England, Ireland, and Scotland with many more destinations to come.
